Gandhi's Body by Joseph S. Alter,

Gandhi's Body by Joseph S. Alter,
No single person is more directly associated with India gandhi ji and India's struggle for independence than Mahatma Gandhi. His name has equally become synonymous with the highest principles of global equality, human dignity, gandhi ji and freedom. Joseph Alter argues, however, that Gandhi has not been completely understood by biographers gandhi ji and political scholars, gandhi ji and in Gandhi's Body he undertakes a reevaluation of the Mahatma's life gandhi ji and thought. In Alter's revisionist gandhi ji and iconoclastic approach, he moves away from the usual focus on nonviolence, peace, gandhi ji and social reform gandhi ji and takes seriously what most scholars who have studied Gandhi tend to ignore: Gandhi's preoccupation with sex, his obsession with diet reform, gandhi ji and his vehement advocacy for naturopathy. Alter concludes that a distinction cannot be made among Gandhi's concern with health, faith in nonviolence, gandhi ji and sociopolitical agenda. In this original gandhi ji and provocative study, Joseph Alter demonstrates that these seemingly idiosyncratic aspects of Gandhi's personal life are of central importance to understanding his politics -- gandhi ji and not only Gandhi's politics, but Indian nationalism in general. Using the Mahatma's own writings, Alter places Gandhi's bodily practices in the context of his philosophy; for example, he explores the relationship between Gandhi's fasting gandhi ji and his ideas about the metaphysics of emptiness gandhi ji and the link between his celibacy gandhi ji and his beliefs about nonviolence. Alter also places Gandhi's ideas gandhi ji and practices in their national gandhi ji and transnational contexts. He discusses how gandhi ji and why nature cure became extremely popular in India during the early part of the twentieth century, tracing the influence of two German naturopaths on Gandhi's thinkingand on the practice of yoga in India.

Gandhi by David Arnold,

Gandhi by David Arnold,
"Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will." - Mahatma Gandhi A new approach to the life gandhi ji and times of one of modern history's most instantly recognizable, respected gandhi ji and popular individuals. Gandhi was a figure of unique moral authority who stood for issues which are still very much alive - anti-colonialism, ethnic co-existence, gandhi ji and peaceful protest. This is not a biography, but an examination of how Gandhi rose to power, how influential he became gandhi ji and how he wielded his authority. Mahatma Gandhi was not only the most important Indian figure of the twentieth century, he is the most famous pacifist ever, yet he was also immensely powerful as the leader of India's struggle for independence. This latest edition in the very popular Profiles in Power Series offers an examination of Gandhi gandhi ji and the nature of his often unconventional gandhi ji and controversial power. Gandhi, a statesman who changed the political face of the world, has had a tremendous impact both within gandhi ji and beyond India, gandhi ji and he continues to be revered as one of the twentieth century's moral gandhi ji and political leaders. David Arnold takes the story further, to situate Gandhi in the context of his own times gandhi ji and by doing so, assesses his place in the history of India gandhi ji and in the modern world. Arnold addresses several questions in the light of increasingly critical views about Gandhi's power.
